Guitar Hero: Aerosmith? Not sure if want.

I just found out that a new Guitar Hero game is being built solely around Aerosmith. Maybe it's just me, but playing only Aerosmith songs in GH doesn't sound very appealing. What's wrong with the current GH formula which attracts a wider market? Aerosmith has a couple of good songs, sure (I like "Walk This Way") but not enough, in my opinion anyway, to make a full GH-sized game.

Furthermore, I'm no Aerosmith expert but what are they gonna use for challenging songs? All of the songs I've heard from them sound like they're easier to play (on GH anyway) than, say, "Heart-Shaped Box".

Oh, and yes, "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" will be in the roster.

If Neversoft/Activision are starting a new "Guitar Hero: [insert band here]", then I am eagerly waiting for GH: Queen or GH: Dragonforce. Not necessarily because I like DragonForce, but if ever that happens the entire game is automatically in delicious hard mode.

Meanwhile, I'm still wondering why Guitar Hero still hasn't incorporated timing windows a la Guitar Freaks (where you are given a score based on how well-timed your hits are). I believe this kind of feature should be mandatory for rhythm/music games, since it actually measures how in-rhythm with the music the person playing is, and it adds a whole new layer of skill.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is scheduled for release this June. Also, "Dream On" by Aerosmith is free DLC on the XBLM and PSN on February 16-18.

EDIT: It also has songs chosen by Aerosmith. Not sure how that affects the attractiveness of this game.

Rock Band confirmed for Wii, but we already have the PS2 version

http://kotaku.com/351406/rock-band-confirmed-for-wii-and-q2-european-release

"a Wii version of Rock Band has been finally confirmed. While such a product has been discussed by EA and Harmonix in the past, official word that it should ship this year hadn't yet come."

Harmonix did mention before that a Wii version of Rock Band is guaranteed, even though there was no official statement. This time, however, it's absolutely confirmed, although no word on release date was given. A problem with a Wii version of Rock Band though is the possible lack of downloadable content. With around 200 downloadable songs released last year, this is quite a big deal. Sure, you can say "but the PS2 version doesn't have DLC either and it's doing fine." Yes, Rock Band is pretty good as a standalone game...for last gen. We should actually be thankful they even bothered with the PS2. Those who bought a Wii but not a 360 or a PS3, but have a PS2, might just stick with the PS2 version and this will hurt sales for the Wii version. Unless they can find a way to incorporate DLC into it. (SD cards might work.)

Also make sure the sound isn't mono.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl delayed, tears flow

Hey Smash fans guess what, the game you bought your Wii for has been delayed...AGAIN. According to a short press release Nintendo, Brawl has been "shifted a few weeks to March 9" for American consumers. Sakurai, Brawl's lead designer, personally apologized to fans in the official website. This was mainly due to "delays in the completion" of the game. This however did nothing to stop the tears and anger from fans who have been waiting so long for the game. If you look around in game message boards I'm sure there will be at least two huge ragefest threads about the Brawl delay.

Japan gets the game by January 31st, which isn't too long from now. What can't be understood is why does the NA version of the game need such a long time to complete? Are the translators that slow? Does Sakurai have a surprise for his Western fans? Three things are certain: One, Americans will import the Japanese version. Two, another month of Dojo updates. And three, there won't be any new characters so #2 is kind of useless. If you're not gonna do #1, prepare to be spoiled (disappointed?).

Konami's 'Target: Terror' will redefine next-gen gaming

Remember that old Konami lightgun arcade game with zombies? It had an interesting mechanic that was fairly new at the time (reloading the shotgun by actually pumping it), but most people will probably not even take a second look at the game because it looked like a really old movie AND a really old NES game that used cheap-looking sprites (in black-and-white no less). While all the graphical 'flaws' were intentional since it was designed to look like a really bad movie, most people will not look beyond that. There were many much better-looking games, and people generally are graphics whores. The game made a brief appearance in arcade nearby and disappeared after like 2 weeks, and never returned. It didn't appeal to many people and was just a waste of electricity.

It seems that whatever Konami was smoking at that time, they are smoking again today, when they decided to develop a 3DO-looking arcade shooting game for the Nintendo Wii, called Target: Terror. The game puts you in the shoes of an elite counter-terrorist, with a variety of weapons to choose from, and even lets you dual-wield. It's Konami's first game that will use the Wii Zapper. Sounds like a fun game, right? And it probably is too.

But seriously, what the blue fuck. People would probably pay for Link's Crossbow Training when they see this shit:

Fragile, Namco's new RPG: Screenshots and official website now open

Fragile is Namco's latest offering for Wii players. Developed by tri-Crescendo (responsible for Eternal Sonata and Baten Kaitos series), this RPG is a third-person "exploration RPG" with a post-apocalyptic setting. The Wiimote will be used mainly to move the flashlight around as the player explores abandoned, empty (or are they?) ruins.

The official website is online but there isn't much and it's Japanese, though there is a trailer and a song.

Screenshots and scans (Famitsu):

Porn of that girl on the lower left is going to exist real soon.

No NA release date yet, sadly, but hope for it to be announced soon because this game is looking great.

By the way the main character is a dude.

Also, it gets released much later in Japan - January 17, 2008 to be exact. I wonder why.

Want a date? Check which console you own first

To the guys: ever wondered how you measure up with the ladies as a gamer? MSN Dating & Personal's Margot Lester gathered a panel composed of a psychologist, a game programmer, a gaming network proprietor, and the editor-in-chief of GameTrailers.com (which happens to be the source of many of the videos on this site) to help you answer that question. Here is a summary:

If you own a PS3, you...
-like to be the first to have things
-may be rich
-demand the best
-"sophisticated, intelligent, enjoys competition"
-are loyal
-are in the know
-are always working

If you own a Wii, you...
-are selfish about his passion, but open for social interaction
-are fun
-are smart with your money

If you own a 360, you...
-are willing to play cooperatively, and have a wider choice of games
-are into serious gaming
-like violent games, but are also social
-are rich
-might be good in bed

How accurate do you think it is? While there is a disclaimer on the bottom of the article which states that you shouldn't completely trust these, I think most of it is just bullshit. Firstly, a lot of people own a PS3 simply because they're raging Sony fanboys, or are waiting for MGS4, and not because you demand the best or whatever. Although this might be where the 'loyal' bit comes from. Next, the Wii may be the best choice economically, but what it offers is much, much different from what the PS3 or the 360 does. You can't really claim that a Wii owner is more fun than a PS3 owner just because the games require the player to waggle around. Lastly, the statements about the 360 owner can also be said of PS3 owners: there's coop, 'serious gaming', violent games (NGS anyone?) and it costs a lot. I'm not sure about that last one though. I mean who needs dates when we have games?

New Wii Fit videos on Wii.com

http://wii.com/jp/movies/wii-fit-movie1/

Nintendo released some new Wii Fit videos, showcasing various minigames like snowboarding, jogging, boxing, and what seems to be tightrope walking. The videos also show Wii Fit's ability to calculate BMI and other things which the average Wii owner would probably have no idea about.

But man, those Wii Fit boards look really delicate and flimsy...you'd probably have to be fit before you can play Wii Fit in the first place...

Manhunt 2 execution videos compilation

If you wanted to see the execution sequences in Manhunt 2 but you don't have the skills (not that this game requires THAT much skill...but anyway) or are just too lazy to play it, someone who calls himself "rubix99" has a present for you. The above video shows the many, many creative ways to kill enemies that Manhunt 2 provides the player (there's quite many). This video will probably make you flinch at least once. So, do not view this if you think blood is icky, if you can't stomach watching someone getting stabbed in the eyes, are eating, or just don't like violence in general.

For those who do...enjoy.

By the way, this was taken from the leaked PS2 version. Am I gonna get in trouble for this? :O

New Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles game screens

A sequel to the Gamecube FF is in the works. So far it's looking pretty...but not much else is known about it because I can't read what's on the site and that it's still in production. But at least there's screenshots. I wonder if it will have some compatibilty with the DS, like it did with the GBA back then.

There's more screenshots in the link so be sure to check it out.

edit: The full title is "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers" according to anfangs_endes.

Oh noes! Super Mario Galaxy leaked onto the Internets!

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=202665

Super Mario Galaxy has allegedly been leaked into the Internet. The possible suspect is EBGames, whose stores have a demo of the game. The 'demo' used by retail chain in question lets you play SMG for a short amount of time; however, if you play it on a Wii you will find out that it's actually the entire game itself, without the time limit. The kiosks holding the demos are locked, which pretty much means the culprit is a EBGames employee. Or someone who managed to unlock the kiosks. Either way, +1 for pirates, -1 for Nintendo. They really shouldn't use full games as demos.

However, some people claim the leak doesn't work. Apparently, if you try to boot it it gives you an error: "error 001 unauthorized device has been detected".

Still, it's pretty careless of Nintendo to let something like this happen.

Oh and there are no links to the rip. Sorry. (Couldn't find any.)

Soul Calibur Legends gameplay videos

From Gametrailers.com:
Sophitia gameplay
Taki gameplay
Ivy gameplay
Siegfried gameplay
Astaroth gameplay

The gameplay looks smooth and the movements are fluid, but I hate to admit, it sort of looks disappointing. Maybe it's only for these demos, but I was expecting having to face a variety of enemies at once, not a bunch of enemies of the same type. Those tigers in the Ivy gameplay look a little stiff too. Room design is bland for a current-gen game, and the camera keeps moving where it could have just stayed behind the character's back. Overall it reminds me of a cross between Castlevania: Curse of Darkness and the little side game from Tekken 3. Bluntly put, it looks generic, and doesn't seem like it was given the usual treatment that Soul Calibur receives. SCL looks like it would do better if it was just included as an extra feature for Soul Calibur IV, rather than a stand-alone game. But it's still too early to conclude things...maybe it'll change when the game is actually released. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, because I really love Soul Calibur and I'd hate for its name to be tainted by a subpar game.

Sega announces Sega Superstars Tennis

Just when you thought Mario and Sonic at the Olympics is the crossover sports game to end all crossover sports games (were there even any before this?), Sega announces Sega Superstars Tennis, "a game that brings together some of the most treasured and well known characters from the SEGA universe" for...tennis. Each character will have their own unique abilities, which should make for some pretty interesting matches. There will be over 15 Sega characters in the game, including Sonic the Hedgehog, AiAi (Super Monkeyball), Ulala (Space Channel 5) and Amigo (Samba De Amigo).

Ulala of Space Channel 5.

I'm sold.

Also, the game is being developed by Sumo Digital, and will be released for PS3, PS2, 360, Wii, and DS. Wait...no PSP?

New Trauma Center (Caduceus: New Blood)

Operating room drama returns! Atlus' new installment in the Trauma Center series (Caduceus in Japan land) for the Nintendo Wii features new characters (Stiles doesn't seem to be in here anywhere), a new story, and simultaneous two-player mode (!), and of course, new medical emergencies. Not much info is available yet, apart from a couple of screenshots and the new characters.

Marcus Vaughn, a doctor in a small hospital in Alaska. Special skills: slowing down time

Valerie Blaylock, Vaughn's colleague. If I'm reading the article correctly (very unlikely) she also has Healing Touch.

Another day, another swollen, broken arm with shards of glass embedded in it...

Notice how there are two tool menus.

Vitals dropping! It just had to be said :(

Release date is sometime 2007 in Japan. Get your team of pretend surgeons ready, and LETS BEGIN THE

Link's Crossbow Training screens

Link's Crossbow Training is sort of a minigame thingy that comes bundled with Nintendo's Wii Zapper which will be on sale starting November 19. It's set in the same world as 8.8Twilight Princess and is essentially a demonstration of what the Wii Zapper peripheral can do, in the form of crossbow training minigames. It probably won't have any story, but it looks like fun, and the graphics look surprisingly sharp for what's practically a tech demo.

You know, Link's cool and all, but I really wish they opted for a Wii version of Duck Hunt instead.
